We Better Our Best

Mission

At Nice Star Academy, our mission is to produce the most enlightened, morally upright, and creative pupils who will be well articulated in all matters of national development. We aim to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment where all students can achieve their full potential. We are committed to fostering a love of learning, promoting academic excellence, and encouraging personal growth. Our experienced teachers, innovative curriculum, and dedicated staff work together to support our students in becoming confident, responsible, and engaged members of society.

Vision

Our vision is to be a leader in the provision of quality education to young people. We have created a school community where every student feels valued, respected, and empowered to achieve their goals. We strive to provide a well-rounded education that supports the academic, social, and emotional development of our students. By fostering a culture of creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration, we aim to prepare our students to succeed in an ever-changing world. Through our commitment to excellence, we seek to inspire a lifelong love of learning in our students, and to equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to make a positive impact in their communities and beyond.

Our School Programme

We use the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), which was introduced in 2017 to replace the 8-4-4 system. The CBC is designed to be more practical and learner-centered, with a focus on developing a student's competencies and skills, rather than just acquiring knowledge.

Overall, the CBC education system in Kenya is intended to equip learners with the skills, knowledge, and values needed to succeed in the 21st century.

The CBC approach is built on four key pillars: Competence-based, Holistic development, Inclusivity, and Relevance. The CBC aims to develop learners who can apply their skills and knowledge in real-life situations and can adapt to the changing demands of society. It also seeks to develop learners who are emotionally, socially, and physically healthy, and who can contribute positively to their communities and the country as a whole.

Digital Literacy

We focus on developing learners' ability to use digital technologies effectively and ethically, for communication, research, and problem-solving.

Self-efficacy

We develop learners' confidence, resilience, and self-motivation, and help them to become lifelong learners who are able to set and achieve goals, and adapt to changing circumstances.

Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

We develop learners' ability to analyze, evaluate, and solve complex problems, using a range of thinking skills and strategies.

Citizenship

We develop learners' understanding of their rights and responsibilities as citizens, and to encourage them to participate actively in their communities and society as a whole.

Communication

We focus on developing learners' ability to communicate effectively and confidently in a variety of contexts, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Creativity and Imagination

This competency encourages learners to think creatively and to use their imagination to generate new ideas, perspectives, and solutions.

Why we Built the School

Nice Star Academy is a non-profit private school. We decided to build the school to enhance the level of learning and promote the well-being of our children within and around our community. I personally wanted to assist, especially the needy children, to realize their dreams because during my schooling, I underwent a lot of problems that tortured me mentally and physically. Hence, I sympathize and empathize with every child who requires learning and cannot afford it. Nice Star Academy therefore became a bridge to realizing dreams and thus eventually improves living standards when their time to give back to the society comes.

Learning

We had the old 8-4-4 system running before. However, our government has introduced the Competence-Based-Curriculum, otherwise known as CBC. The curriculum is practical oriented. Besides learning, the school offers other practical classes which include:

Our intention is to produce an all round student. Our school also offers training skills to parents and farmers around the school on the above practical subjects. Our aim through this projects is to impact skills for future use and create awareness among our students and parents on how to cut down cost by having a manageable and productive kitchen gardens in their homes.

Challenges

We capitalize on our challenges so as to give the necessary strength and to give us room for improvement because we are not yet there. We are currently facing the following challenges;

  • Remittance of salary to our staff, both teaching and non-teaching.
  • Changes in the government policy which forced us to purchase textbooks instead of the initial issuance by the government.
  • The school's library is inadequate in spacing, and understocked
  • With the introduction of the new curriculum,CBC, we are required to have a mandatory junior secondary school and a well equiped up-to-date laboratory.

Conclusion

We believe that God works miracles and that He will see us achieve through the effort we put in to improve and support the lives if our children. It is our determination to produce an all-round student upon completion of their education with us. It is also our aim to equip with skills and knowledge and to impact the society positively. Dreams are valid and God above all.
